China has barred US officials from entering the country, including Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Samuel Brownback, the US envoy for the International Religious Freedom.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters on Monday. She said in a statement that the United States had no right to interfere in China’s internal affairs.

After China imposes sanctions on top US officials Ms. Hua said the sanctions would take effect on Monday, but did not elaborate on what the measures would entail.

The United States has previously banned Chinese leaders. China has retaliated by blocking US officials. The United States has repeatedly raised the issue of the Muslim community in China and Tibet. China has warned that all of these are China’s internal affairs.

Recently, tensions have risen between China and the United States over Taiwan and Hong Kong. The United States has been protesting against security measures imposed by China in Hong Kong. Tensions between the United States and China have also risen over the coronavirus.
