It is said that Defense Minister Singh inaugurated the prestigious road connecting Kailash and Mansarovar through video conference on Friday. “I am happy to inaugurate the Mansarovar Yatra Link Road,” he tweeted.

Defense Minister Singh has mentioned that connecting roads to the border is a great achievement of India. He is confident that this road will facilitate locals and traders. This road is important for trade between India and China, said Amar Ujala, an Indian online editor.

India has inaugurated the road to Lipulek without resolving the dispute over Nepal-India Lipulek. Lipulek area is Nepali land through Kuti, Kalapani and Nabhidhang. Protests are also going on after India built roads on Nepali land without resolving the issue of border encroachment.

The road, built up to the Chinese border, is also said to be effective from a trade point of view. Earlier, traders and locals used to transport goods from Tawaghat in India by mules and porters. It has been mentioned that the situation where traders have to walk has come to an end with the construction of roads.

Indian traders no longer have to walk from Tawaghat to Gunji to import and export Chinese goods. Earlier, vehicles used to run only 45 km from Dharchula to Garwadhar. Above that, traders and the general public were forced to walk.

The locals used to walk 10 km from Dharchula Garhwadhar to Pithoragarh in Malpa, 9 km from Malpa to Bundi, 18 km from Budi to Gunji, 8 km from Gunji to Kalapani and 8 km from Kalapani to Nabhidhang. India has opened a total of 78 kilometers of road tracks. This is the first road that India has built to connect with the Chinese border.

According to the Indian online version, the Indian footpath has come to an end with the opening of the track from Tawaghat to Lipulek. Khimananda Bhatta, a senior trader in Dharchula, said that China had extended the road to Lipulek in 2008 and trade would ease with the opening of the track. “I am confident that trade with China will increase as soon as the road is opened,” he said.

Dharchula SDM Anil Kumar Shukla said that even if the roads were opened this year, there would be no trade with China due to the corona virus. From India to China, jaggery, sweets, dandelion, carpets, matches, aluminum utensils, bamboo sticks, flour are exported.

With the opening of this road, it will be easy for not only Indians but also Nepali citizens to reach Chinkaru Tinkar. Residents of Darchula, Beas Gaonpalika-1 have been using Indian land since 2060 BS as there is no road to Nepal. The construction of Darchula-Tinkar road has been delayed for a decade and the road through Nepali land has been blocked.

The construction of Darchula-Tinkar road, which was started in 2065-06, has only opened 40 km of track so far. Recently, the Government of Nepal has decided to hand over the responsibility of construction of 78 km of Darchula-Tinkar road to the Nepal Army.

Yogesh Bohara, a resident of Vyas, says that India has now built the road while China has already completed the road. “China has already built a road to the border,” he said. “Now, India has also built a road near Lipulek, passing through our disputed land.” Darchula residents have also expressed dissatisfaction over India’s construction of a one-way road.

Meanwhile, the news that India has unilaterally inaugurated a road track connecting Lipulek Kalapani in Nepal’s geography to Mansarovar in Tibet, an autonomous region of China, has ushered in a new phase of the Lipulek Kalapani dispute between the two allies.

Replying to a question about the next steps to be taken by the Government of Nepal, Foreign Minister Pradip Kumar Gyawali said that the Government of Nepal had received information about the recent Indian activities in the region from various media outlets and requested the Indian Embassy to provide clear details.
